2002 Team

The 2002 Grand Ledge football team was ranked in the top 5 in division 1 most of the season until falling by a single point to Waverly (21-20) in week 7 after starting 6-0. The upset loss wound up earning Waverly only their 2nd ever playoff appearance and still only 1 of 3 total appearances in school history as of 2026 (discounting 2020 where all teams qualified due to COVID). GL would finish strong with 2 big wins over EL & Holt to win the outright CAC title (Holt finished runner-up with 2 league losses). GL finished the season ranked 9th in D1 at 8-1 and had to turn around and play Holt again first round of the playoffs. Unfortunately, Holt pulled off the upset win in a defensive battle 9-7, and Holt would go on to win their next 2 playoff matchups, making the Final Four that season after beating GL.
